Root User vs IAM User
The root user is the original identity for the AWS account. An IAM user is a separate identity created inside that account and can be granted controlled permissions.
| Root User | IAM User |
|---|---|
| Account-level identity | Controlled identity inside the account |
| Very broad account capabilities | Permissions depend on policies/groups |
| Protect strongly and avoid routine use | Suitable for controlled daily access |
Simple mental model
AWS Account → Root User (protect)
→ IAM User / Role → Policy → AWS Service
Quick Test
1 QuestionWhich identity should normally be avoided for routine daily AWS work?
